The Academic Thesis Competition is now open.  National Dam Safety Association (BGD) invites students to enter the Academic Thesis Competition (ATC), open to graduate students (MS and PhD) pursuing degrees at Turkish or other countries’ universities or colleges. BGD’s fifth International ATC will be held in conjunction with 5th International Symposium on Dam Safety, October 27-31, 2018 in İstanbul, Turkey. We invite students or young academicians to submit their studies on Dam Engineering. Topics may include traditional areas of dams and appurtenant structures as given below:

 

Engineering design of dams,

Structural analysis,

Geotechnical analysis,

Hydrology,

Hydraulics,

Construction of dams,

Risk management and hazard mitigation,

Emergency action planning,

Dam security and policy,

Case studies,

Emerging and innovative technologies,

Environmental and social issues for dam impacts

Others about dams and appurtenant structures not including above.

 

The Academic Thesis Competition will include the studies, which are completed in the period of 2015 and 2018. Categories on competition are considered for MS and PhD theses per year.  Each winning thesis will receive $500 and accommodation to present at 5th International Symposium on Dam Safety 2018. Winning theses will also be published in the International Symposium proceedings. Other selected entries will be invited to participate in the Symposium Poster and Lightning Talk Forum. Conference registration fees will be waived for all participating students or academicians, enrolled in colleges or universities in the Turkey and other countries, who present a valid student ID. The supervisors of winners will be invited to the 5th International Symposium on Dam Safety 2018. Registration to this competition can also be made by the supervisor of thesis.

 

All candidates must include an executive summary of at least 1,200 words should be submitted online, up to August 15, 2018. Announcements of selected theses for assessment will be made in early September.
