"Probabilistic Cracking, Ageing and Shaking of Concrete Dams"

Victor Saouma is a Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Colorado in Boulder. He is past president of FramCoS (Fracture Mechanics of Concrete), Chair of RILEM’s Committee on Prognosis of deterioration and loss of serviceability in structures affected by alkali-silica reactions. He has been active in research on dam safety for the past 30 years, most notably as a Principal Investigator on a 4 years project on the applicability of fracture mechanics to concrete dams for the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), 9 year project for the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) on the nonlinear seismic response of arch dams to strong earthquakes, and has just initiated a 3 years project for the Bureau of Reclamation on the impact of alkali silica reaction on arch dams. He recently completed a 3 years project on impact of AAR on nuclear reactors funded by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. He has published a book on Numerical Modeling of AAR. He is also a managing partner of a recently established consulting company xelastica and is writing a reference book with Dr. Hariri-Ardebili: Structural Analysis of Large Infrastructures.
